La Colina — meaning "the hill" — was left to farm owner Tony Medina as an inheritance from his father. Having grown only corn and beans for many years, Tony planted his first coffee tree in 1991. Because he has cultivated nothing but Caturra and Bourbon across his 27-year career as a producer, we can see the progress he has made with these two varieties. The result is consistent, satisfying, and complex results in the cup. On the nose it offers a caramel aroma, with red grape notes carrying into a jammy cup. This coffee, full of lively characteristics, is on Petra's shelves in limited quantities. Enjoy!

BEAN DETAILS

Region: Antigua | Distinguished by its volcanic soils and high-altitude microclimate, Guatemala's Antigua region produces characterful, complex coffees with a balanced structure and lively acidity.

Variety: Bourbon, Caturra | Bourbon and Caturra are among Arabica's most prominent varieties; while Bourbon stands out for its high quality potential and complex flavor profile, fast-growing Caturra delivers a slightly lower result in the cup compared to other varieties.

Process: Washed | A processing method in which the coffee cherry is stripped of its skin and pulp, then fermented and washed, yielding a clean and bright cup profile.

Harvest Year: 2026 | Sourced directly from our partner farms from the 2026 harvest.

Altitude: 1,700 masl | The elevation at which the coffee is grown. Generally, the higher the altitude, the more slowly the coffee matures — contributing to more pronounced acidity, more intense aroma, and more complex flavor profiles.
